Bring your rods and fish for Bass (catch and release) on the nearby dam. The best fishing is during the summer months -it seems that even the fish feel the cold! . We've got quite competitive here trying to get the biggest fish. Fishing can also be found at Worcester dam- Carp, Whitefish, Bluegills and Smallmouth. Trout fishing is available at Du Toitskloof Resort about 1½ hours away on the N1.

Bird Watching is a past time many of our guests enjoy and as we've already mentioned we have many different species of birds that visit our own grounds such as the Paradise Fly Catcher, Red Bishop Bird and Hoopoe but of course as you explore the area you'll find many more. Birds of Paradise Park on the Ashton side of Robertson, is worth looking out for as are The Nature Gardens on the west side of Montagu.

For Hiking and Mountain Biking you just have to leave The Oaks and enter the surrounding farmland and orchards where the local farmers are happy for you to use their land.

There are many trails that you can book through the Montagu/Ashton Tourist Office as well as some lovely ones in the MontEco Nature Reserve.

We are just 4km from the world famous Tractor Rides at Protea Farm which operate on a Wednesday and Saturday and who also offer a delicious potjie lunch.

For Wine Lovers, you have come to the right place. Starting with the KWV Brandy Cellar in Worcester, through Robertson, Ashton and Montagu you will find Van Loveren, Robertson Winery, Weltevrede, Rietrivier and Montagu Wine Cellar (Where you must try the delicious Muscadel) to name but a few.

The Montagu Golf Club is a nine hole course just 15minutes drive away and offers a warm welcome to anyone who wishes to play – so pack your clubs.

The Avalon Springs hot mineral pools are an ideal place to go either as a couple or with a family. For over 200 years these waters have been visited for their healing powers with the water temperature at a steady 43 degrees.

For those who enjoy a bit of adrenaline there are many 4x4 routes in the area, one place offering 4x4 is Protea farm and another is MontEco Nature Reserve near Montagu. MontEco is open to day visitors and those with 4x4 can experience a network of trails voted one of the top ten 4x4 destinations in South Africa. If you don't have a 4x4 they also offer a guided 4x4 in a safari vehicle. The reserve boasts an impressive amount of wildlife and is well worth a visit.

Quad biking and off road buggying can be done just 5 minutes away from us at Waboom mountain activity centre.
Quad Bike guided tours are also available at MontEco.

For Rock Climbing you should contact De Bos Guest Farm who can supply with a climbing guide book. Montagu boasts some of the best rock climbing in South Africa with over 300 bolted routes.

Nuy River Kloofing offer abseling, boulder hopping, rafting and bush wacking through the Karoo and fynbos.

Boat Trips are available daily along the Breede River, most starting near Robertson, with many offering food and wine along the way.
